Pier Management Ltd, the asset management arm of one of the UK’s largest residential freeholders, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Managing Director to lead our operations. The successful candidate will take full responsibility for the operation of the UK freehold portfolio (40,000 units) and each of the 8 departments (~40 staff) handling the various income streams. The role is extremely varied, requiring exemplary technical knowledge, a solid understanding of property management and the surrounding legislation, in addition to a strong business acumen. The managing director takes responsibility for income, revenue generation, compliance, staff management and technological progression. Tasks:
• Strategic and operational oversight of eight core departments, ensuring effective leadership and alignment with the company’s business objectives. The departments consist of property management, asset management, legal, credit control, insurance, pre-sale enquiries, data & tech, subletting. Each team has a line manager who report into the MD.
• Working closely with line managers to ensure the departments are executing BAU functions efficiently and maintaining targets. Maintaining a keen eye on the detail of each department, ensuring effective resource allocation and providing guidance and insight where required.
• Develop and execute strategic initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and streamline processes across departments.
• Identify and implement new revenue opportunities, leveraging market trends and company strengths. • Ensure full regulatory compliance across all operations, proactively monitoring and adapting to legislative
changes. Educate and guide the line managers on compliance requirements, embedding risk mitigation into business processes.
• Maintain a full understanding of the various financial agreements we have in place and ensure we are operating in compliance with the parameters of these.
• Provide guidance and instruction to both in-house and external solicitors on all litigation matters. • With the assistance of the data team, provide a full suite of management information and metrics to senior
management each month. Proactive development of those reports to ensure clear and valuable data is provided to the board to aide decision making and risk mitigation.
• Oversight and management of adhoc projects as they arise. • Leverage emerging technologies to drive innovation, improve efficiency, and enhance customer experience.
Evaluate and implement tech-driven solutions to optimise business performance. • Conduct regular performance reviews and one-to-one meetings to nurture talent, identify growth
opportunities, and ensure employee engagement • Assist with recruitment for teams. • Inspire, mentor, and lead a high-performing workforce, fostering a collaborative culture that drives
excellence and innovation.
Requirements:
• Extensive knowledge of the residential block management sector and underlying legislation • MIRPM/ Chartered Surveyor/ relevant degree or equivalent qualification • Minimum of 5 years' experience in managing multi-functional teams, with a proven track record of
leadership and staff development • Strong leadership qualities, strategic thinking with effective decision making • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills • Deep industry expertise with a passion for innovation and excellence in residential property management

Location/ Hours:
• 5 days per week (Mon- Fri), 9am- 5:30pm
Hybrid working is available; however, given the leadership responsibilities of the role, a strong on-site presence is essential to effectively manage the team.
